Kayla Mateo – EdLaw, Staff Counsel
Kayla Mateo joined the Edlaw Project in 2024 as a Staff Attorney. A graduate of New England Law | Boston (NELB) in 2024, she received recognition on the 2024 SJC Honor Roll by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services. While studying at NELB, she completed an internship for Greater Boston Legal Services' School to Prison Pipeline Intervention Project, working to help dismantle the school to prison pipeline by advocating for students facing school discipline.
Prior to law school, Kayla had the opportunity to serve as a teaching fellow for AmeriCorps. She worked with a diverse group of students, many of whom faced educational challenges, to ensure they had the resources to succeed by targeting and addressing educational gaps. She earned her B.A. in political science and psychology from Hartwick College. When she is not advancing education advocacy, she enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants in Boston, and playing with her dog, Coconut!
