
Elizabeth Levitan – EdLaw, Senior Counsel
Elizabeth Levitan is a Senior Counsel at the Edlaw Project of the Committee for Public Counsel Services. She started with the EdLaw Project as a Skadden Fellow in September 2017. Ms. Levitan represents youth in special education and school discipline matters who are also facing charges in juvenile or criminal court and/or are incarcerated. She is also a lead attorney in the class action litigation filed in partnership with Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee and Latham & Watkins against the state for failure to provide special education to incarcerated young adults. In addition to her direct representation of youth, Ms. Levitan’s work consists of advising and training members of the Massachusetts delinquency and child welfare bar, parents, and community members on special education and school discipline matters, as well as advocating for systemic changes to improve access to special education services for incarcerated and court involved youth. Ms. Levitan is also a creator of VOICES (Voices of Impacted Communities Ending the School-to-Prison-Pipeline), a space for young people and parents impacted by the school-to-prison-pipeline to come together, identify systemic challenges and advocate for change in a supportive community. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2017.
